About Us
The General Government Service Center (GGSC) is one of five financial service centers within the Department of Administrative and Financial Services established to provide centralized accounting and budgeting services to agencies across state government. GGSC serves roughly 30 agencies within the Department of Administrative and Financial Services (including Information Technology, Procurement Services, State Postal, State Surplus, Central Fleet, Service Centers), various Cultural Agencies and Boards and Commissions—a mix of government clients that adds variety to standard accounting practices.

About the Job
GGSC is looking for organized and detail-oriented individuals to join our team. The position work location is Augusta, Maine. Applicants should note that while there may be opportunity for remote work within a structured work plan, this job serves certain core functions that cannot be performed remotely.
CORE FUNCTIONS:
This position is responsible for:
- Analyzing, preparing and paying invoices, processing deposits and journal vouchers.
- Creating all CRCC’S
- Monitoring and creating CR’s for Teacher Cerification.
- Prepare Teacher Retirement journals quarterly
- Prepare and process CDS payments in a timely manner
SAMPLE TASKS:
- Ensure accounting operations for assigned accounts are performed timely and accurately—including:
- review of accounts payables for accuracy
- tracking balances on contracts
- ensuring vendors are paid and cash receipts are processed
- preparing correcting journals as needed
- Check all documents on Monday to make sure prior week transactions are all at final in the accounting system (Advantage).
- Create and modify daily queries from a data warehouse.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting theories, principles, methods, practices, and terminology as well as knowledge of governmental accounting standards and systems.
- Adaptability to use diverse computerized accounting systems.
- Ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles to account for revenue, expenditures, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Ability to review and audit invoices such as travel vouchers for conformity with state policies.
- Effective communicator – in person and in writing.
- Ability to function effectively as a member of a project team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
An Associate’s Degree from an accredited educational institution in Accounting -OR- any Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution that includes 12 semester hours in accounting coursework -OR- 3 years of practical work experience providing complex technical support to professional accounting staff. Accounting coursework must include successful completion of Principles of Accounting I & II plus two other accounting-related courses. Experience must demonstrate comprehension and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.
