BAXTER PARK SUPERVISORY CARPENTER

 $18.27- $24.45 Hourly

 Are you a carpenter with a love for the outdoors?  Do you like to work with a view? Are you interested in apply your craft in one the country’s most unique wilderness parks? You’ll find working at Baxter State Park is not just a job, it’s an adventure.

 As a Baxter State Park Carpenter, a typical day might include the following:

 Work within the Park Maintenance Department to repair and replace park buildings and infrastructure.

  • Lead carpentry tasks at park campgrounds, group sites, gatehouses, back country campsites and elsewhere.
  • Helping with the seasonal startup and shutdown of Park building systems.
  • Work with the Park Maintenance Supervisor to plan and prioritize carpentry related maintenance projects.
  • Help plan, prioritize, and organize Park’s supply of carpentry supplies, tools, fasteners and sawn lumber.
  • Maintaining a clean carpentry shop and Park vehicle.
  • Assisting with search and rescue events in the park.

  • Some of the most remote, rugged country in the Northeastern US, including Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak, 46 other mountain summits, more than 50 pristine lakes and ponds, and over 200 miles of hiking trails.
  • A full-time maintenance staff, reliable contractors, and dedicated volunteers.
  • Health Insurance Coverage – The State of Maine pays 85%-100% of employee-only premiums ($10.150.80-$11,345.04 annual value), depending on salary.
  • Dental Insurance – The State of Maine pays 100% of employee-only dental premiums ($350.40 annual value).
  • Retirement Plan – The State of Maine contributes at least16% of pay to the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS), on behalf of the employee.
  • Work-Life Balance – Rest is essential. Take time for yourself using 13 paid holidays12 days of sick leave, and 3+ weeks of vacation leave annually. Vacation leave accrual increases with years of service, and overtime-exempt employees receive personal leave. 

 

 You Must Have: 

  • Two (2) years education and/or experience in carpentry.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent

 

You May Also Have:

  • Experience in Round Log Construction
  • Knowledge of Advanced Wilderness First Aid techniques.
  • A Class A or B Driver’s License
