Purpose:
This position exists to develop and manage the Maine Service Fellows program. The Maine Service Fellows, per state statute, exists to A) Increase the opportunities for individuals to devote a year of service to communities in the State; B) Attract to and retain in the State motivated adults who have completed a college degree within the prior 5 years to serve in positions where they can apply skills and abilities to projects for the benefit of citizens of the State; C) Provide rural and underserved communities in the State a resource to address critical health and human, public safety, education and environmental needs; and D) Strengthen civic engagement of both the program fellows and community residents through solutions based in whole or in part in volunteer service.
The position will assist the Climate Corps Coordinator with recruitment and onboarding of Fellows who commit to serving in a community full-time for a year. Fellows are placed in community-based organizations or municipalities and are not considered employees of the State. The position will support Maine Service Fellows during their service and assist with program including training, technical assistance, and implementation of the host site’s community project. They will support the Fellows positive integration into the site and community and help site supervisors troubleshoot challenges. They will assist with record-keeping and data collection to ensure reports are made on time to Commissioners and funders. They will assist with communications about the Maine Service Fellows to stakeholders. They will also support Volunteer Maine’s programming for the volunteer sector ensuring a connection between Maine Service Fellows and other community resilience initiatives. They will participate in or organize volunteer projects or promotional activities during designated times.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, including but not limited to service corps/national service operating procedures
- Knowledge of statewide public and private programs, activities, agencies, and resources available in community and volunteer sector, including but not limited to climate resilience and adaptation
- Knowledge of volunteer organization and management techniques and practices.
- Ability to apply effective personnel management practices in the recruitment, selection, training, and retention of volunteers.
- Ability to provide leadership.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, including as part of a team.
- Ability to present ideas publicly.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to write clearly and effectively.
- Ability to use applicable data management, information, communication, and educational technologies.
- Knowledge of training methods and techniques.

- Ability to engage diverse external audiences including potential host sites, potential recruits, currently serving Fellows, other State government officials and Federal officials
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A four (4) year combination of education and/or experience in organizing, supervising, and/or coordinating a volunteer program.
