This is a full-time position located in Augusta and allows for partial telework with management approval.

Core Responsibilities:

As an Accounting Associate I, you will:

•    Enter invoices into the accounting system for payment processing.
•    Complete various tasks, including scanning documents for archiving, verifying records for accuracy and ensuring proper documentation. 
•    Work alongside team members to cross-train on accounts payable tasks, enhancing overall team efficiency and flexibility.
•    Collaborate with team members to improve processes, resolve issues, and achieve department goals.

Minimum Qualifications: (Entry level knowledge, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience). 
Training, education, and/or experience in office and administrative support functions demonstrating competency in applying accounting principles, reviewing and maintaining financial records, and using independent judgment to prioritize work for efficiency and operational needs.

The backgrounds of well-qualified candidates will demonstrate the following competencies:
•    Proven examples where initiative and attention to detail contributed to operational process improvements.
•    An ability to be flexible and adjust to business needs while balancing multiple tasks and priorities. Strong time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines are essential.  
•    Outstanding customer service skills coupled with a strong work ethic and ability to excel while working with multiple stakeholders to achieve common goals. Teamwork is critical for success in this position.
•    A proven ability to enter a considerable number of transactions yielding a high level of accuracy.

Agency information: 

The DHHS Financial Service Center is responsible for program accounting, cash management and revenue/expenditure controls for the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).  The Service Center provides budgetary and fiscal analysis for many complex areas within DHHS, including TANF (i.e. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and MaineCare (Maine’s Medicaid Program). The Service Center works collaboratively with senior leadership at State agencies, providing consultative financial and accounting services. Areas of fiscal expertise include compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, statewide budgetary policy, budget development and monitoring, application of generally accepted accounting and financial practices, grant management, financial analysis, cash management, accounting and financial processing, and legislative support.
