The primary purpose of the Capitol Police Lead Security Agent position is to supervise the Security Agents as well as perform all of the duties of the Security Agents. In supervising the Security Agents, the Lead Security Agent will ensure that correct screening processes are being followed and that the Screening Agents are using the security screening equipment correctly. The Lead Security Agent will also conduct monthly equipment quality checks end ensure that any malfunctions or irregularities are addressed. As Lead Security Agent, they will
identify, distribute, and balance workloads and tasks among employees in accordance with established workflow and skill levels. They will adjust the workload in accordance with established priorities. The Lead Security Agent will perform employee evaluations of subordinate Security Agents as required. The Lead Security Screener will supervise up to nine full-time Security Agents and one part-time Security Agent. The lead Security Agent will perform administrative tasks in support of the police supervisor tasked with oversight of screening operations. The Lead Security Agent administrative tasks will include, but may not be limited to, scheduling, general quality control, compliance checks, employee training, and recommendation of discipline as may be determined.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the screening staff at various
locations - Create and implement a work schedule for the Security Agents
- Adjust staffing levels as needed at various locations
- Assign personnel to work overtime as needed
- Coordinate, identify, and determine additional training needs
- Assign staff to various locations when emergencies arise
- Make sure personnel have necessary equipment and uniforms
- Reach out to outside agencies for additional training
- Provide input to the Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Chief concerning performance and evaluations
- Assign patrol areas and prioritize essential tasks
- Decide when to conduct in-depth screening protocols when necessary
- To shut down the security operations for an emergent crisis
- Activate the State House emergency alert system.
Minimum qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent and at least two (2) years of security work or related experience and no criminal or extensive motor vehicle record.
