Who are we?
The Bureau of Motor Vehicles is seeking self-motivated candidates to fill the Accounting Associate I position in the Accounting Unit. As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in revenue collections and expenditure processing that is essential in the financial operations of the Bureau. The Bureau’s accounting unit processes revenue received by approximately 474 municipalities, 13 branch offices, and 16 Main Office sections.

Work hours for this position are either Monday-Friday 7:00am-4:00pm (1 hour lunch) or Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm (1/2 hour lunch).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reconciling revenue from various sources including: 16 Main Office sections to create a daily bank deposit; from mail received from municipalities for registration, titling, and sales tax transactions; and from 13 – 15 Branch Office Point of Sale reports.
  • Data entry and maintaining spreadsheets for on-line unit and revenue collections.
  • Processing expenditure invoices for vendor payment and employee reimbursement.
  • Filing and/or Scanning.
  • Servicing internal and external customers by phone and in person.
  • Processing incoming mail twice a day
  • Processing refunds to customers daily

The candidate we are looking for will have the following skills:

  • Knowledge of query and research techniques.
  • Ability to establish computerized and/or manual filing systems.
  • Ability to make intermediate mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and write clearly.
  • Ability to effectively resolve problems.
  • Ability to determine facts, detect errors and irregularities, and take appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions/recommendations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience.)

  • Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates
    • Competency in applying a solid knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices necessary to perform complex work in maintaining specialized accounting and financial records
    • Ability to use independent judgment in handling exceptions to established work assignments, priorities, and schedules.
