Job Description:
This is a professional services and environmental science position focused on management of the Department’s environmental geologic assessment program. Responsibilities include analyzing environmental, analytical and geologic data, preparing and publishing findings and/or recommendations, and liaison with internal and external customers, regulators and consultants. This position regularly interacts with all major functions of MaineDOT. Work is directed toward ensuring MaineDOT projects and initiatives are completed in accordance with relevant and applicable environmental regulations and with minimal environmental liabilities. Efforts include working with Federal and State regulators, project engineers, design personnel and colleagues to minimize issues associated with groundwater or soil contamination, evaluating analytical data, assessing local and regional geologic and topographic features and participating in the Department's UST and SPCC programs. The successful applicant must be licensed as a Maine Certified Geologist or able to obtain the certification within 12 months of hire and must also be 40-hour HAZWOPER certified.
To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:
An eight (8) year combination of education and/or experience in geology or related field.
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).
Some positions in this class may require a Certified Geologist.
