Job Description:  

This Technician position will be performing difficult and moderately complex engineering duties in construction materials testing in our Materials Testing & Exploration Section. This position will be working with a small team Statewide performing field sampling & testing of construction materials as well as inspection of HMA and PCC production facilities. Providing direction and training to subordinate semi-skilled personnel performing testing activities may be required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Quality Assurance Engineer. 

Typical responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Performing high quality sampling and testing of construction materials in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and MaineDOT procedures, as trained and directed.
  • Performing routine maintenance and calibration of sampling and testing equipment.
  • Standing for long hours, regularly handling and manipulating heavy material samples without assistance, and traveling to ongoing construction projects material sources and production facilities.
  • Working safely with power tools, sampling and testing equipment, and when handling samples, being sure to follow all safety requirements.

Prior sampling and testing experience and Certification with NETTCP as a Soils & Aggregate inspector, HMA Plant Technician, and either NETTCP PCC technician or ACI field testing is desired. Candidates without certifications will be developed with the expectation of becoming certified within 2 years of hire. 

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:

Five (5) years of experience in engineering –OR- an Associate Degree in Engineering or a related technical field and three (3) years of experience in engineering -OR- a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or a related technical field and one (1) year of experience in engineering.
