The Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry, Bureau of Parks & Lands, is looking to fill a vacant limited period Senior Planner position out of the Augusta, Maine headquarters.

 

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Statewide Trails Project Manager is a planner and partnership builder. The position's roles include significant responsibilities associated with the management of the Maine Trails Program which includes: 

  • Facilitating high-level trail planning initiatives in coordination with other state and local agencies, tribal governments, trail advocacy, and trail user constituencies
  • Developing comprehensive processes for all aspects of trail project delivery 
  • Creating internal and external partnerships to assure those processes and systems are effective and efficient all ensuring the department's mission plays a central role in decision making

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s Degree in assigned area and four (4) years of related work experience. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Assigned Areas: Recreation Management, Law, Public Administration, Business Management, or related field.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following knowledge, skills or experience: 

  • Knowledge of trail construction best management practices
  • Knowledge of the practice, principles, and techniques of community trail development
  • Knowledge of the federal, state and local laws, standards, codes, regulations, and procedures which affect trail building and real estate transactions
  • Knowledge of GIS (e.g., ESRI) products and tools is preferrable
  • Knowledge of outdoor recreation and land management planning principles
  • Ability to manage and use grant management software
  • Experience successfully managing high-profile and mission-critical projects that affect an organization's financial outlook and perception by its stakeholders/customers
  • Experience working with senior level managers to gain participation and ensure project success
