Purpose:

The position provides professional services work teaching academic subjects at schools operated by the state in the Education in the Unorganized Territory in Maine. Responsibilities include testing students, developing curricula and education plans, instructing classes, and evaluating student progress.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of teaching principles, practices, and techniques.
- Knowledge of cultural competencies, classroom management, and student engagement practices.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Maine Teacher Certification with appropriate subject and grade endorsements. Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with students, colleagues and families.
- Ability to write clearly and effectively.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise written and/or computer generated reports.
- Ability to develop curricula and lesson plans.
- Ability to use computer programs and technology effectively.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelors Degree in Education or related field.
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).
- Maine Teacher's Certificate for appropriate subject and/or grade(s) as issued by the Department of Education.
As a condition of employment, the Department of Education requires the selected candidate to pass a fingerprint-based background check.
