Job Description:  

This position reports directly to the Director of Maine State Ferry Service (Ferry Director). This is professional services work of a policy, management, and leadership nature administering, directing, and leading the scheduling and daily operations of the Maine State Ferry Service (MSFS). 

Responsibilities include:

  • Direct management of multiple MSFS employees, including Ferry Captains and other boat crews.
  • Developing and recommending new and revised policies and procedures to improve operations within MSFS, in collaboration with Ferry Director and Human Resources.
  • Along with the Ferry Director, planning, organizing, and establishing controls within MSFS operations to communicate priorities, manage operations, and ensure operational goals are achieved.
  • In consultation with the Ferry Director, determining and administering financial, personnel, and capital needs to meet established goals, objectives, and priorities.
  • In consultation with the Ferry Director, working with the U.S. Coast Guard to ensure compliance and safety with Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Functioning as the Company Security Officer (CSO) for MSFS, and championing safety at the MSFS, working in collaboration with both MSFS staff and additional MaineDOT personnel to ensure the MSFS Safety Program, practices, and procedures are followed.

The selected candidate will be required to have or obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential Card) through TSA within 30 days of employment. 

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:

Candidates must demonstrate progressive experience in management and possess strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Preference will be given to candidates with maritime experience.
